It is synthesized by creating aqueous solutions that were supersaturated with respect to calcite and otavite. Specifically, CdCl2 concentration was 0.005 mol/L. The solution also had 0.1 mol/L CaCl2 with equimolar of carbonate. The initial pH was adjusted to 11 using NaOH. The solutions were equilibrated for 6 days with gentle agitation at 25 ºC. The solids were obtained via filtering with a 0.22 μm PVDF membrane (Durapore®). After rinsing with DI water and ethanol, the solids were dried at 60 ºC.
