XCT Images (Scan Resolution = 13.2 microns) Origin Data
Shale sample with a syntaxial vein containing carbonate minerals (OSU_1988-2_Sub-1). This xCT scan was produced using the industrial x-ray CT scanner (North Star Imaging M-5000) at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Morgantown, WV. The energy of the microfocus x-ray was 110 keV and the current was 200µA. A total of 1440 2D projections were obtained at 0.25-degree increments for a total rotation of 360 degrees. Each projection was rendered by averaging 10 radiographs. The 2D 16-bit grayscale images were used to construct the render of a 3D volume. The resulting 3D image consists of approximately 3000 image slices, with a total of more than one billion voxels of size 13.2 µm. A segmented version is available on request.
